Sospel lies at the heart of the Comté de Nice, close to the mountains and sea. Whether you love hiking or relaxing by the sea, whether you like exploring old streets colorful with history or you prefer the hype of the Côte d’Azur and the shining lights of Monte-Carlo, there is always something to do in our area.
Places of notable interest in our area include not only the typical villages of the Bevera and Roya valleys (besides Sospel: Moulinet, Piène-Haute, Breil-sur-Roya, Saorge, La Brigue, Tende) but also the peaks of the Mercantour National Park and the world-renowned Vallée des Merveilles with its petroglyphs from the Bronze Age. Sospel is also very close to Italy with the nearest italian village only 8 km away from Sospel.
Every Thursday morning you will be able to visit Sospel market where local farmers and producers sell their fruits, vegetables and specialities (local olive oil, honey, cheese, dairy products and various charcuterie/delicatessen), a truly blessing experience.
On the seaside, you will enjoy the Côte d’Azur in all its glory with lovely places such as Menton, Monte-Carlo, La Turbie, Eze-Village (renowned for its perfumes) and coastal towns such as Beaulieu, Villefrance-sur-Mer and the beautiful peninsula of Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat are a must see. The metropolis of Nice is not far away either and can be reached either by car or by train. If you enjoy promenades by the sea, the Sentier des Douaniers section going from Roquebrune Cap Martin to Monaco, where famous architect Le Corbusier’s “castle” lies, is highly recommended.
If you’re a sport lover, Sospel is a hot spot for mountain biking, hiking and also for paragliding. It’s also a prized location for mechanical sports with various events such as the Rallye de Monte-Carlo which generally starts from Sospel to the Col de Turini, with its vertiginous roads, and also a quiet location from where one can enjoy the Grand Prix de Monaco, away from the stress of this worldwide event. Horse lovers will also find possibilities to practice their passion in Sospel.
